Every Monday

What just changed
in your region.

Every Monday we compare the newest NC Industrial Commission file to last week’s, and check public records for new permits, contract awards and expansions.

  • Entering the window - businesses whose renewal just moved into the 90–150 day range
  • New building permit - a dated public permit naming the business, with its stated value
  • Contract award - a dated public award to the business, with the amount
  • Expansion or new location - a dated record of a new or larger site
  • Staff growth - a public federal retirement-plan filing shows more employees on the plan at year end than at the start

Renewal timing comes from the state file, which notes its records may lag. Permits, awards and expansions come from public records; staff growth from public federal retirement-plan filings. Then we check each one: independent (not a franchise, chain or private-equity owned), 10–150 workers, an industry that buys real comp, and a working main line.
